Bill and Beth Larsen are the flute section of the Southwest Florida Symphony Orchestra. Both flutists earned full graduate scholarships and hold Masters degrees in Performance from the College-Conservatory of Music of the University of Cincinnati, Ohio. Collectively the Larsen family has studied with Peter Lloyd (former principal flute with the London Symphony Orchestra), Walfrid Kujala (piccolo with the Chicago Symphony), Kyril Magg (associate principal flute with the Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra), Geoffrey Gilbert (Former Principal Flute, Royal Philharmonic), and Charles Delaney (Flute professor at the Florida State University). They have also participated in master classes with James Galway, Jean-Pierre Rampal, Trevor Wye, and Julius Baker.

Beth Larsen received her Bachelor of Music degree from the Florida State University. Besides her position with the SWFSO, Mrs. Larsen is also second flute/piccolo with the Palm Beach Opera Orchestra, and substitute with the Naples Philharmonic and the Florida Orchestra. Active as a teacher, Beth has held positions as flute instructor at the University of Central Florida, Daytona Beach Community College and as a private instructor in Orlando. Mrs. Larsen is a past winner of the Florida Flute Association's Young Artists Competition, and in 1992, won the prestigious Myrna Brown Flute Competition in Dallas, Texas. Mrs. Larsen performed the Mozart Concerto in D Major as guest soloist with the Dallas Chamber Orchestra in December 1992.

Bill Larsen has been principal flute of the SWFSO since 1984. He has appeared as guest soloist in 1987 on Vivaldi's Concerto for piccolo in C, and in 1989 on Bach's Suite in b Minor. Mr. Larsen's experience includes utility flute/piccolo with the Phoenix Symphony, and first call substitute and acting principal flute for the Florida West Coast Symphony. Locally, Mr. Larsen has done extensive chamber music with Jasi, and the Iris Chamber Trio. Mr. Larsen's teaching experience includes his private studio, the position as adjunct instructor at the Edison Community College, the woodwind quintet coach of the Palm Coast Youth Orchestra and two summers at the Birch Creek Summer Music Festival.
